LJM Foundation support financed a new kitchen and dining hall where children have a place to sit and eat meals at a table for the first time. Monies were also allocated to cultivate a new vegetable garden on the property to provide a significant portion of the children�s meals.

LJM Foundation provided an additional 40 grants of cows or livestock this year to guardians of AIDS orphans. The educational needs of 120 orphans in the care of these guardians were also funded. With over 239 grants given since 2002, these orphan guardians are averaging about $30 U.S. dollars a month in milk sales, more than doubling their income. These widows from Bwabya were among this year�s grant recipients. Widows who received grants in 2002 have calved up to five cows. These cows have been sold, with the proceeds put towards the purchase of land, construction of homes, and payment of school fees.

LJM Foundation is slated to build two new orphanages in Kenya through its partnership with Alliance for Youth Achievement. AYA is committed to improving the quality of life for Africa�s poorest and most vulnerable children. The passion and mission of Mercy & Sharing is to provide hope, love, and opportunity to abused, abandoned, and disabled children in Haiti. Mercy & Sharing owns and operates two orphanages, a mobile clinic, three schools, and feeding programs across the country. The mission has expanded in recent years to providing food aid to the elderly and oppressed in the Cap Haitian region of northern Haiti as well. The program endeavors to provide a safe haven for the many abandoned, malnourished and impoverished children who have nowhere else to turn. For over 12 years, Tony Caine and LJM Partners have supported an orphanage in Chichicastenango which rescues children from the street. And, LJM has supported a small business to generate income for widows and orphans.

LJM Foundation has provided generous funding to establish a research endowment in neonatology at Loyola University Health System (LUHS) in Maywood, IL. Critically ill newborns receive care in a 50-bed neonatal intensive care unit, which features the latest in medical technology. Conditions treated include prematurity, birth defects, breathing disorders, infection, and other complications of premature birth. The staff includes board-certified neonatologists (physicians specializing in disorders in newborns), neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal nurses and neonatal respiratory therapists, all committed to helping each baby thrive. Chicago International Charter School operates K-12 charter schools that provide a rigorous, college preparatory education. LJM Foundation has gifted funds for the purchase of calculators to provide junior year math students the learning tools necessary to complete advanced math curriculum. Chicago International is graduate students at rates nearing 90% and at a college preparedness level far exceeding other Ch icago Public Schools with similar student demographics.
